Intro

A 25-year social entrepreneur and new energy activist now focusing on the creation of hyper-local economies rooted in sustainable food systems. This year, I created the Chamber of Commons (see: http://chamberofcommons.com) in the pursuit of a Natural Capital economy. For 9-years (1988-1997), I was apprenticed to a pioneering physicist and natural philosopher who advanced the state-of-the-art in unconventional electrical energy and inertial propulsion systems. This led to my founding http://NewEnergyMovement.org with Apollo astronaut, the late Dr. Brian Oleary. Currently, I share the view of Lester Brown that the weak link in our civilization is the unsustainable industrial agriculture system. Thus, I am committed to re-rooting my local economy in the stewardship of the soil and the cultivation of ample food resources with the least carbon footprint. This effort will necessarily include sustainable biofuel production and an alternative transportation sector blossoming therefrom.

Education

I am the founder of Value Ecology, Inc, an ecological services company focused on soil regeneration, biological farming and biomass generation. I am involved in efforts to build a social economy in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon and have distinguished myself as a leader in my community. I have over 20-years experience in advanced and alternative energy technology, both from the scientific research side and as a management professional. I am pursuing a B.Sc. in Environmental studies at Southern Oregon University to complement my many years' work in the practical manifestation of sustainability.

What are your dreams? What are you here to create? How can the AWElife community help you realize your dreams?

I am deeply devoted to the creation of a triple-bottom-line economy in the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion. Food security is of paramount significance to this vision and begins with soil fertility and the diversion of waste streams into the creation of a biomass-centered, natural capital economy. I am seeking short-to-medium-term finance to build an unprecedented social economy around food and fuel production in our agrarian region that currently produces only 3% of its required calories. Perhaps crowd funding combined with social entrepreneurship and LOHAS investment sources will spur this dream towards a robust reality.

Activities, Interests, Hobbies

I am farming organic fruit and vegetables on an increasingly intensive basis, making large quantities of fertile compost (both thermal and vermicompost) as well as re-mineralizing the land where I live near Ashland, Oregon. I am a writer, inter-faith minister, musician and social justice activist.

Everybody is Special - What is Special About You?

I am demonstrating to my family and community that the highest form of spirituality is selfless service. I also recognize that the loss of fertile topsoil is probably the most devastating trend in our modern-day. I have a comprehensive strategy for reversing this trend through re-mineralization techniques, an approach which may ultimately reverse climate change by allowing both forest and agro-ecosystems to be powerfully regenerated.

  • Hi Andrew,

I see we have some similar interests in organic farming, sustainability, and energy.  I've recently become interested in parallel money systems as banking is one of our biggest impediments to wellbeing.  Have you read the book "Rethinking Money?" I find it inspiring.  I'm from southern Oregon- great area!
